Giant flowers drew in the crowds to the inaugural daffodil festival at St Mary's Church in Henstead with Hulver Street.

Several hundred people attended the event at the weekend to enjoy the spring blooms, both inside and outside the church.

The wild daffodils in the churchyard impressed visitors while the church itself was filled with daffodil displays produced by local residents and businesses.

Some of the displays were floral arrangements and some were crafted or modelled to include daffodils.

Attractions included an enormous daffodil constructed of welded horseshoes, tiny hand knitted brooches and daffodils painted by local schoolchildren.

Local history documents were also on display and refreshments and novelty gifts were on sale.

A spokesman said: 'Many visitors were surprised by the variety and some even came back on the second day. It was the first time this event has been held and it has been deemed a great success.'
