A WOMAN has died after a car and a HGV lorry crashed near Southwold.

All three emergency services, including the East Anglian Air Ambulance, were called to the A1095 Halesworth Road between Blythburgh and Southwold just after 1pm today.

Firefighters from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service fought to free the 58-year-old woman from her purple Vauxhall Agila but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed into the evening while officers carried out investigations and crews attempted to stem a flow of diesel from the lorry’s ruptured tank. The HGV was a blue curtain-sided Mercedes lorry.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Suffolk police’s Serious Collision Investigation Team on 01473 613500.
