VOLUNTEERS are continuing to make progress at the Beccles Lido site with over 80 hours of work undertaken already.

And there has been plenty of help from other areas of the community.

Beccles Lido Volunteer Coordinator Graham Norgate said: “We have made a huge visible impact. We hope to able to do much of the minor works ourselves, including the construction of a new disabled access ramp and a new secure boundary fence.

“This will save many thousands of pounds and will help convince funding bodies that we are serious in our intent to get the pool opened again.”

District Councillor Graham Elliott said there had been a surge of interest in helping at the Lido since physical work started.

“It shows the depth of community support for this ambitious project and gives everyone greater confidence that the pool will be re-opened in May,” he said.

He said that Paul Jackson, an arboriculturalist from Bungay, will undertake tree work at the site for no charge on Thursday, which will involve the removal of some of the conifers and any unsafe trees. It will also allow a view of the river from the pool site.

Meanwhile fundraising continues via coffee mornings, quiz nights and the recent stall at the Beccles Christmas lights evening when over 400 was made.

Beccles Lido Limited is also applying for a number of grants to enable them to carry out the major work that cannot be undertaken by volunteers.
