AN internationally renowned music quartet is holding a workshop for students at three south Norfolk schools today.

Andrew Stratford, head of music at Langley School, has invited his GSCE and A-level students, as well as musical students from Hobart High and Loddon Junior School, to meet the Henschel Quartet before they perform an exclusive concert this evening at the opening of a new musical venue - the Mill Room at Loddon Mill.

The quartet is renowned for

its interest in education and

for helping nurture the next generation of musicians.

The educational workshops will benefit students studying towards their music exams.

Although the evening concert is free, donations will be collected in aid of the world's largest orphan and abandoned children's charity SOS Children's Villages.

The quartet is currently on a tour of Europe and is making a whistle-stop at Loddon's Mill Room, which has recently been beautifully restored.

The Victorian building originally housed the large steam engines that drove the mill.

The rooms were derelict since the mill closed in 1968, but have been restored this year.

The Henschel Quartet originates from Germany and comprises

two brothers, a sister and colleague.

The group is widely regarded as one of the leading quartets in the world and has won numerous competitions and prizes.

Brothers, Christoph and Markus play 17th century Stradivarius violins, their sister Monika plays a Gasparo da Salo viola and Mathias plays a Hjorth cello.

Their visit this evening is a rare one to the UK, although, aside from extensively touring Europe and the Far East, they have given concerts at the BBC Proms and the famous Wigmore Hall.

This event is being jointly hosted by Andrew and Katherine Walter (who both work in the music industry) and Langley School, Loddon.

Free tickets are available from Langley School by calling 01508 520210.
