Years of dedication from staff and pupils alike has resulted in a primary school being rated as Outstanding by Ofsted for the first time in its history.

Worlingham CEVC Primary School, in Garden Lane, was visited by a team of inspectors from the education watchdog in July.

The school previously underwent a short inspection in January which found the school was “improving towards being outstanding”. And while the next inspection was expected to take place in two years, it took just five months for Ofsted to return and award its highest rating.

Headteacher Vicky O’Brien said: “I knew in my heart we had an outstanding group of pupils with an outstanding group of teachers.

“We feel extremely proud and justified. The report affirmed what we felt we deserved.”

Mrs O’Brien put the school’s success down to having high expectations of the pupils; having a lot of fun while at school and embedding a “growth mindset” among the pupils.

She added: “The children have self-belief and feel the sky is the limit.

“All the children are amazing, they all want to learn and they are supported by their parents who have high aspirations for them.”

In the report from the latest visit it was stated: “The headteacher leads this school with drive and rigour. Her vision for the school is fully supported by staff, governors, pupils, parents and carers.

“All staff share an understanding of what constitutes the best possible teaching. This is evident in the quality of learning and in the high standards pupils achieve across the school.”

Inspectors also went on to praise the quality of teaching.

They said: “Teachers have high expectations of their pupils and have established positive and trusting relationships and ensure that their classrooms are well ordered and calm.

“All classes have effective teaching assistants who support pupils well.

“Pupils in all year groups make strong progress in their reading, writing and mathematics, and have excellent opportunities to apply this learning in other subjects.”

To retain it’s Outstanding rating the report advises the school to “continue to develop the school’s assessment system across all curriculum areas.”
