There's a story inside all of us, or so the saying goes.
But a writer from Ellingham has taken her love of writing to the next level and has the honour of seeing her children’s fantasy story published.
Valerie Rogers, who writes under the name V A Radcliffe, described her joy at finally seeing her book Let’s Seek an Adventure, in print after years of writing stories and poems.
The 72-year-old said: “It has been a dream come true and has come after a long, long time of writing.
“I have always enjoyed writing and my partner said why not try and get a book published.
“So I saw the name of the publisher - Stockwell - in a magazine and I had a feeling that it would be a good choice.
“They got back to say they are interested and that was how it started.”
The mother of two and grandmother of 10 previously worked as a proof reader but said she had always enjoyed writing for children.
Although she has written 10 books, Let’s See and Adventure is the first one to be published. It features three stories in one and is aimed at younger readers.
The first tale features a poodle and a labradoodle Katie and Niki, inspired by Ms Rogers’ own dogs, who go in search of adventure and find themselves in trouble in a drifting boat.
In the second story, Grace and Her Unicorn, a little girl has vivid dreams about a fabulous unicorn and then one day she discovers that the unicorn is real. Acorn Day, the final story in the book, was inspired by a circle of green grass in the middle of a ring of oak trees, and is where the squirrels celebrate Acorn Day and young squirrels learn that happiness comes from helping others.
