YEAR five children at Bungay Middle School now have their own personal copies of an easy-to-follow illustrated dictionary.The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary was presented to 83 pupils by Bungay Rotary Club during the year five assembly last week, as the result of fundraising by the club's vocational committee.
YEAR five children at Bungay Middle School now have their own personal copies of an easy-to-follow illustrated dictionary.
The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary was presented to 83 pupils by Bungay Rotary Club during the year five assembly last week, as the result of fundraising by the club's vocational committee.
Each copy has the name of the child in it, written in script by Rotary member Desmond Scarle, and includes the Rotary badge. Dick Cundy, chairman of the vocational committee, who organised the project, said he hoped the dictionaries would be a valuable aid to the children's education.
“It was a very successful project and we hope to do it again next year,” he said.
The money for the dictionaries was mainly raised through talks, a walk around Norwich and a beetle drive.
Rotary president Terry Reeve, who presented a copy to each child, urged them to take care of them and make good use of them as they went through the school. He also explained to the children what the Rotary movement was about, how many members and clubs it had throughout the world, and outlined the sort of projects the Bungay club supported and organised, both in the local community and worldwide.
Club members Colin Bale, Desmond Scarle and Graham May also attended the presentation.
