An inaugural awards ceremony is hoping to celebrate community stalwarts who tirelessly go above and beyond for others.

The Stars of Lowestoft and Waveney Awards, which will be held on Friday, November 27, will celebrate those whose selfless work often goes overlooked.

Organised by Lowestoft mayor Stephen Ardley, in partnership with Archant, publisher of the Beccles and Bungay Journal and our sister paper the Eastern Daily Press, the ceremony will see awards presented in 13 categories, including carer of the year, community group or champion of the year and police person of the year.

Mr Ardley said: “We would like to get as many nominations in as possible – nothing is too small. If you think that someone is worth nominating or that something they have done is worth putting forward, then don’t think twice and please put the nominations in.

“We are very excited about it and I know everyone else will be as we get closer to the awards.”

The event will be sponsored by Lings Motors of Lowestoft, Waveney Norse and Sentinel and will be held at The Hotel Victoria in Lowestoft, who are supplying their premises for free.

Nigel Pickover, editor of the EDP, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the Stars of Lowestoft and Waveney Awards.

“It will be a magical evening which ties in with our own Stars of Norfolk and Waveney Awards in December.

“There are hundreds of people whose dedication to the community goes overlooked and we hope this is an opportunity to give them the recognition they deserve.”
