A team of 35 Kingfishers swimmers took part in the annual Waveney Civics Open meet held by Waveney District Council at Lowestoft pool.

Building on the success of last year when a very small number of swimmers came away with a nice collection of silverware, the swimmers this time went to steal the show - which they did in great style.

In total they won 43 trophies and 85 medals in individual events, clocking up 13 first places and 65 personal

best times.

The girls came away with the majority share of silverware. They were helped by the relay teams.

The 4x25m medley relays saw three of the four teams that entered finish in the top three and the fourth team finish fifth. And in the 6x25m freestyle relay three teams entered, two of them taking first and second with the third team finishing just outside the medals in fourth.

The girls turned up with get depth in numbers across all ages - from the nine years age group which saw Nina Howell come away with first in the breaststroke to the open age group, consisting of four strong girl swimmers in Rachel Doran, Hollie Holland, Zanna Yallop and Roxi Holland. All four came away with silverwear.

Alex Eames-Bayton in the 14/15 year old age group was first in the butterfly. That age group also contained a group of four who all came away with trophies - Philippa Doran (third in butterfly), Amber Bircham (second in breastroke) and Ellen Nelson (third in freestyle).

The 12/13 age group consisted of the second largest group of swimmers, Jenny Seaman (first butterfly), Louise Shepherdson (third backstroke), Sophie Podd (first breaststroke), Eleanor Chick, Amy Howell, Sophie Bircham, Imogen Sida-Page and Elizabeth Bryne.

The largest group was in the 10/11 year-old girls. Here there were impressive swims from Nina Bricham (first in freestyle and backstroke), Jenny Beevor (third butterfly), Eleanor McGrath (third freestyle and breaststroke), Felicity Putman, Bonnie Birch, Hannah Barnes, Melissa Bygrave, Lauren Howe and Lydia Sida-Page.

The smaller, but just as deadly, group of boys was led by the youngest and the oldest.

The youngest was Josh Birch in the nine years age group who won the butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle backed up by Sam Norton with a third in the breaststroke. The oldest, Richard Clarke, showed club coach Tim Millett how it's done by winning the breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke, leaving Tim to bring home the freestyle.

Tom Taylor was the lone ranger in the 14/15 year old age group, collecting medals in each of his races. Chas Lees in the 12/13 age group came away with a third in the freestyle and backstroke.

After only a week out of Accident and Emergency following an injury at a gala the weekend before, Dalton Yallop put the pain behind him to lead the 10/11 year old age group for the club, taking third in the butterfly and breaststroke followed by Matthew Seaman, Ross Barnshaw and Joe Eames-Bayton.

A great swim by all during a long night and great build-up for the club championships and Winter League.
