Black Dog Judo Club hosted a special training session last weekend which saw over 30 players take part.

The idea was to get children of the lower weight groups together from all over the Eastern area. Children from the age of five took part, mixing with players from other clubs for the first time.

The session was led by coaches David Oates and Mark Purllant from the Black Dog Judo Club and was a combination of movement based exercises and techniques, with a randori (practice fighting) element to experiment with the new techniques learned.

Coaches attending were impressed with the attitudes shown by the young players, with a desire to learn and a want to get stuck in. Some of the judo on show was top level and the younger players were showing great promise.

The event proved to be a great success with players going away with new friends, smiles and improved techniques. It is hoped that this will become a regular event.

Also at the weekend Jack Purllant took part in the Clacton International Judo Festival. Jack was once again fighting up a weight group in a tough competition. He fought well to win the silver medal, cementing his continued position as one of the most promising players in the area.

The club also sent a number of players to a competition in Norwich on the same weekend. It was fantastic to see how all of the players have developed in such a short period of time.

Results included Oliver gold, Jayden silver and bronzes for Jackson, Luke, Anthony, Zak and Benn. It will not be long before they are all bringing home gold.

Jack and Oliver also took part at a competition at Martham a week earlier, where they continued their domination of their respective groups, both taking golds.

The club is about to hold their own competition for the first time - why not come along and see what Judo is all about. They train at the Chaucer Club on Thursday nights from 6pm, everybody welcome. Contact Mark on 07793 583683 mark@ purllant.co.uk
