Halesworth Angel Bowls Club's youth pairs tournament attracted entries from a wide area with a good number from Norfolk and Stowmarket.
The format was again one boy or girl under 17 partnered by one adult of either gender under 30. Club president Derek Newby welcomed the players and visitors including Norfolk's Mickey Gill, one of the country's top umpires. The other guest was Peter Gorham, junior vice-president of Suffolk CBA.
The event was sponsored jointly by Norwich and Peterborough Building Society and the ladies of Halesworth Angel Bowls Club, providing prize money of over �500.
The event was organised and run by Roger Denny, a past national pairs champion and Halesworth's junior organiser. A new innovation this year was a mobile fish and chip lunch served to order, with the ladies providing light refreshments throughout the day.
Two excellent semi-finals with some high quality bowling followed the group stage with local boy Daniel Bishop and Beth Manser of the Rookery Bowls Club holding last year's winners Aileen Riches and Marcus Fuller from Rookery to five shots all after eight ends.
Riches and Puller then scored four shots on the penultimate end which proved decisive for them. In the other semi-final Abi Manser and Stuart Gought from Rookery played the fancied pairing of David Seabourne and Wayne Willgress from Acle Bowls Club.
Wayne skipped an Acle triple to win a national title at Worthing in 2007, but contrary to expectations the Rookery pair were leading 7-1 after three ends and were worthy winners by 11 shots to five.
In the final Abi and Stuart raced into an 8-1 lead after six ends and ran out winners by 14 shots to five.
Roger thanked the sponsors and all members of Halesworth who had worked before and throughout the day to make the event such a success.
He presented the winners of the target bowls competition with their prizes and Peter Goreham and Mickey Gill with gifts in appreciation of their support.
Peter presented the prizes to the winners and runners-up.
