Black Dog Judo Club are celebrating another superb result at the British Judo Championships for 10 and 11 year olds.

Sasha Pallister just become the 17th player from the club to win a national medal.

She not only won a medal she also blasted her way to becoming the British Champion for her weight group — an outstanding result for someone who started judo just two years ago.

The event at Cardiff saw judoka from all over the country attend.

Head coach Mark Purllant also travelled to Wales be there and give valuable support to Sasha and club colleague Eloise Morran, who was also competing

Mark said: “It was a day of mixed fortunes, Eloise’s group was possibly the strongest group I have ever seen at this event, and Sasha picked up a bad knock in just the first few seconds of her first contest.”

But both girls battled hard with great commitment and determination. Unfortunately it was not to be this time for Eloise despite a valiant effort, but Sasha found herself picking off the wins and in a great position.

After Sasha’s last contest the realisation of what she had achieved showed and it was great to see the girls celebrating her success.

It has been very notable how the whole club has congratulated Sasha, demonstrating what a fantastic supportive atmosphere it has.

The club has a great history of producing champions and developing players into current and former England squad members, who compete nationally and internationally.

It has also produced a number of very talented girls along with Sasha, including National British Schools medallist Hannah Lumb.

Sasha and her friends all train at the club’s permanent Dojo in Bungay, usually twice a week, but also attend many other special sessions, including masterclasses from world champions.

Currently the club is going from strength to strength but with an increase in coaches there are places available in its Monday, Tuesday and Thursday sessions.

Players can start in a wide range of classes depending on age — judo starts from five years but the club also has a fundamentals class for under-five years.
