Series racing continued for helms at Beccles last Saturday in a pleasant south westerly on a flood tide.
Thirteen started in the pursuit race and a close finish had George and Glen Curtis in Norfolk ‘Penelope Jane’ ahead of Harry Shipley by half a boat length.
A great start by Langston in the mixed handicap Coronation Cup developed into an uncatchable lead ahead of Nigel Shipley and Billy Stannard in their Kestrel, but the win went to Glen, this time at the helm, and George Curtis on corrected time.
A further Bacchante Trophy win by George Curtis completed a hat-trick ahead of Ron Haynes with Roger Campling. Harry Shipley, although first over the Will Judge Trophy finish line, was not far enough ahead to prevent Mark Langston in ‘Flash’ collecting the win on handicap.
Five Beccles sailors competed for the Norfolk Open Trophy with George and Glen taking the honours.
