Beccles entertained Garboldisham on Saturday afternoon looking for revenge from their loss in the first match of the season.

They made a mixed start with opener Matty Lowe scoring 31 and Cameron Robson 25, but other top order batsmen failed to score significantly as the home side reached 77 -5 from 20 overs.

Captain David George joined Stu Watkins at the crease and the pair looked to stabilise the innings. They succeeded in frustrating the Garboldisham bowlers for 10 overs pushing the score to 110, before George was bowled by Fuller.

Simon McDowell joined Watkins and they batted well, hitting any short balls for boundaries. The pair put on a seventh-wicket partnership of 95 before Watkins was run out for 76. McDowell continued to score before being stumped for 44.

Beccles reached 234 to give themselves a respectable score to defend.

Beccles’ opening bowlers Nick Smith and Alex Wright attacked the visiting batsmen with Smith getting the early wicket of Willman in his first over.

Wright was consistent and economical with three maidens in his first spell but was unable to make another breakthrough.

A change of bowlers in the 13th over saw spinner Ian Ruddock and Matty Lowe continue the attack. In his third over Lowe got the wicket of Phoenix. Hogg took to the pitch and with Leech took the score to 98 before the later was run out by Watkins.

The visiting batsmen steadily gained control with some excellent stroke play, putting on a fourth-wicket stand of 96 before Terry Hunter caught Worby off Lowe. The visitors were 194-4 in the 41st over and it only took them another five overs before reaching their target, with Hogg 86 not out.

Beccles II ventured to Cromer who are flying high in Division Five. Beccles batted first and opening pair Jonathan Puxley and Chris Robson continued their excellent form with an opening partnership of 72.

Four further wickets fell for 33 runs and Beccles were 105-5. Tommy Young offered some resistance with 34 but Beccles knew a total of 151 would be very difficult to defend.

Cromer showed their intent hitting 18 off the first two overs before Ian Norman bowled Lithins. Jason Cockings made a great start bowling Zelos for five with his first ball.

However, Payne and Woodrow put on a 109 taking the home side to 150. Cromer reached their target in just 25 overs.

Both sides face local rivals Lowestoft tomorrow, with the Sunday team at Dereham.

Wednesday, July 15 sees the club host their first club night, with everyone from kwik cricket players through to the senior cricketers invited to join in an evening of fun starting at 6pm.
