Lady Captain's Day at Beccles Golf Club was a huge success on Saturday when Sam Cooper's Texas Scramble was contested.

It attracted one of the largest fields of competitors for many years with ladies' teams and guest men's teams joining the regular members on a beautiful morning with play progressing without undue delay considering the number of teams competing.

Success in the ladies' section went to Jula Janney, Ann Brett, Jenny Edwards and Mary Pacey with the guest team of John Lowe, John White, Bernie and Pip taking the honours in their section.

The main prize was won by club members Mike Webb, Mike Garrood, Jim Preston and Derek Bickers.

Prizes for the longest drive went to Steve McWilton and nearest pin by the ladies was won by Shirley Walding.

There followed a superb buffet - which included Sam's infamous hot chilli which kept conversation to a minimum.

At the prizegiving Captain Sam Cooper thanked everyone for their attendance and expressed her special thanks to Sue, Willie, Alan and Bungay Golf Club for their generosity and support.

A total of £500 was raised on the day towards Sam's chosen charity Help for Heroes. Members wished Sam a speedy return home and back to the club following her entry into hospital on Monday and thanked her for a very enjoyable and successful Lady Captain's Day.
