Bungay Bowls Club host their second open tournament of the season on Sunday. Tournament organiser Ian Gosling has attracted an excellent 28 pairs of bowlers from across Norfolk and Suffolk to compete for the Captain's Cup which is once again sponsored by Bungay butcher John Groom for the eighth time.

Tournament organiser Ian Gosling has attracted an excellent 28 pairs of bowlers from across Norfolk and Suffolk to compete for the Captain's Cup which is once again sponsored by Bungay butcher John Groom for the eighth time.

The second to fourth place entrants from last year all return which includes Colin Powley (Bungay), Roger Bullen (Bungay) and Ray Lutkin (Cotessey Crown).

Other finalists in recent years are also back such as George Howes (Mettingham, second 2008), Steve Tayt (Cotessey Crown, second in 2006 and 2009, fourth in 2008), Jim Reid (Bungay, third in 2008), Valerie Pryke (Waldringfield, third in 2007) and Barbara Wortley (Bungay, fourth in 2007).

Other entrants from the host club include Arnold King, Les Knowles, Marion Frost, Tony Murphy and Richard Tuttle.

Qualifying matches start at 9am with the finals expected to start around 4.45pm.

Spectators are welcome.

Meanwhile, the impressive form of the Bungay club in county competitions under captain Ian Gosling continues with just a single defeat in the Suffolk EBF Junior Cup so far this season.

On Friday, Bungay play Thurlton at Beccles Con-servative club in the Area A

final of the Suffolk Senior Cup after beating favourites Kessingland and Lowestoft Railway in the previous two rounds.

In the Suffolk Bowls England competitions Bungay have reached the last 16 of all the three competitions they have entered.

Wins against Risbygate and Sole Bay mean Bungay meet East Bergholt or Brantham in the Norton Cup.

A three rinks to two win against Boxford mean that Bungay will now play Bourne Vale or Earl Stonham in the Millenium Trophy while a two-shot win against Marlborough means Bungay will play local rivals Halesworth in the Bert Edwards Cup.

A coffee morning at the club raised �148.64 for club funds.
