Beccles Town's promotion hopes are now in their own hands after an excellent 2-1 win at Attleborough took them to the Anglian Combination Division One summit.

They have just two games to play, starting with a home fixture against lowly Hindringham tomorrow (2.30pm), and if they win them both they will be guaranteed a place in the top flight next season.

Danny Cable made a couple of outstanding saves to keep the home side out early on before Greg Mann rose unchallenged at a corner to give them the lead.

This proved to be the catalyst Beccles needed and at last they got going. The first half ended with a flourish when the visitors forced a corner and David Shade rose high to glance in Liam Harvey-Cooper’s well-taken corner to level.

The Wherrymen started off the second period on the front foot and the home keeper was called into action to save brilliantly from a Harvey-Cooper free-kick from just outside the area.

Harvey-Cooper then thought he had given Beccles the lead when he neatly headed in a deep cross from Waterman on the right, but he was ruled offside.

On 73 minutes Beccles got the reward they deserved from all the attacking pressure when Aaron Jones made a superb run down the left and sent in a brilliant cross for Harvey-Cooper to smash into net.

Attleborough went close when Cable had to race from his area to head a through ball clear but Beccles then frustrated the home side by d denying them any further opportunities. With other results being favourable, the day ended with Beccles on top of the league, a point ahead of Bradenham.

Beccles: Cable, Glover, Galer, Shade, Jones, Waterman, Shaw, Bailey, Bale, Harvey-Cooper, Clark. Subs: Godbold, Masters, Grimmer.
