TOPCROFT Tigers U17 beat hosts Lowestoft as they began their defence of the Junior Carter Cup, with a man-of-the-match display by Ben Baldwin, 16, who hit 126 runs and took 5-21.

This was a top performance from the defending champions and much credit must go to the Lowestoft team who kept going in the field all the time.

Baldwin (pictured) and Chris Barber (35) started to build a partnership that would set the platform for a massive total from the allotted 36 overs. B Flanagan later joined in (29) and the score began to rattle along.

L Shade finally removed Baldwin who, having made an excellent 126 from 108 deliveries which included 20 fours and a six, fell caught behind by D Smith.

Tigers eventually totalled 269 for seven wickets. The Lions ended on 104 all out in the 32nd over with Baldwin taking 5-21, JLayton 2-37 and E Gooch 2-3. Baldwin tops our roll of honour in both batting and bowling this week.
