BECCLES A produced their best bowling display of the season to set up an important Alliance Division Five victory at Barton Turf against Norwich & Coltishall Wanderers A.

Asked to bowl first on a hard, dry and covered wicket Beccles produced an outstanding all-round display of accurate and consistent bowling throughout the Wanderers' innings.

Fisher and Harber set the standards at the top and everybody else duly followed.

One run had come from the first six overs when Harber clean bowled Bunting with beautiful away swing.

The second wicket fell in the next over when Patten ran himself out after being completely tied down by both Fisher and Harber.

The score after 11 overs was 10-2 which soon became three when the ever-improving Fisher took the prize wicket of Aussie U19 international Mitchell thanks to a good catch behind the stumps from debutant Hoare.

Beeden and Lambert then built a slow and laborious partnership of 27 runs in 11 overs but this was broken by Alex Wright who bowled a superb five-over spell, getting his reward in his final over.

At the other end, Harber was huffing and puffing his way through a 12-over spell, and after taking his solitary wicket bowled five maidens and conceded a miserly 12 runs.

With Wright and Harber bowled out, Aldridge and Holm took over and still the home side were unable to break free from the shackles.

Both took important wickets as the score lurched to 85-6 after 40 overs.

Only at this stage did the batsmen take a chance with Beeden scoring more in the final six overs than he had in the previous 36. The innings finished at 131-8 with Hoare taking a smart stumping to earn Beccles a deserved fourth bowling point.

The reply got off to a shaky start with Hunter, Puxley and Clarke all unable to cope with the formidable bowling of Mitchell.

And when Thorpe and then Hoare, plumb lbw, soon followed and the score at 34-5 things were looking bleak.

However, Sneddon (24no) set up camp in the middle and was obviously not coming out. He and Holm began to stabilise the situation.

They took the score to 71-5 when rain intervened for a short period after the 20th over.

At this stage it was impossible to pick a winner, but after the break the pair assumed full control.

Holm started to punish the loose ball with great effect and Sneddon initiated some marvellous stroke play.

With Mitchell out of the attack the score quickly reached three figures, and with Holm now fully committed to attack and Sneddon playing with gay abandon they saw Beccles home in the 30th over much to the relief of all their team mates.

An excellent win for Beccles inspired by all the bowlers and good fielding.
