Beccles and Bungay Riding Club hosted the Area 14 Junior Indoor Show jumping competition at Humberstone EC on February 5.

Only two teams took part in this competition, a team from the host club and one from Carleton Riding Club.

Both teams collected faults in their second rounds, making it a close competition. However, Isla Craggs and Mayland’s Delight riding for Beccles and Bungay RC had a clear second round in a time of just 55.41 seconds to clinch first place for her team.

This means the Beccles and Bungay Riding Club junior team – consisting of Martha Craggs, Isla Craggs, Charlotte Cattermole and Lydia Sida-Page – have qualified for the Championships at Hartpury in April.

The Carelton team consisted of Ben Westgate, Ashleigh Garrett, Abby Richards and Annalise Gray.

In the afternoon an Open show jumping competition was held.

In Class One, Novice 45cm, Samantha Dean on Olympic Provider and Kelly Beck on Ruanu jumped off for first and second places. Kelly took first place with a time of 28.71 seconds and Samantha had to settle for second place with her time of 31.66 seconds.

Class Two was won by Sue Stock with her little horse Pandora, after a clear round in the jump off with a time of 42.82 seconds. Kelly Beck picked up four faults in the jump-off, leaving the way clear for her sister Bridget to take second place with a clear round.

Sue Stock followed up this success by winning Class Three, the Restricted 70cm.

Class Four, Open 75cm one round against the clock, was very exciting. Included in this class was an Over-40s section, competing for a further first-to-third place.

Michelle Colman on her horse Molly took first place in all sections with a clear round in a time of 45.19 seconds, just pipping Lee Wright in the over-40s section who took second place with her time of 45.8 seconds. Ellie Peel riding Silver Eclipse took second overall with a time of 45.23 seconds.

Class Five, Open 85cm, had 15 competing for the top spot. There were several four-faulters although no particular fence was responsible for the errors.

Lee Wright took first place with a beautifully controlled but fast round in the jump-off in just 29.6 seconds. Flynn Regan on his new horse Hilltop Holly was close behind with a time of 30.27 seconds to take second place.

Class Six, Open 95cm, was another busy class. There were several knockdowns and a couple of very unfortunate eliminations. Fern Wilby with April Showers took first place with a jump-off time of 35.81 seconds and no faults. Ellie Peel managed a faster round with a time of 34.8 seconds but took a pole down in doing so and finished second with four faults.

Unfortunately high winds did deter some competitors from travelling in their lorries and the entries for the day were lower than was hoped for. But those that did come along certainly seemed to have a good day.
