Beccles approach final game of season against Acle

There is no home game at College Meadow this weekend, but Beccles Town first team have their last home game of the season on Tuesday night (ko 6.30pm) against Acle.
Spixworth 1, Beccles Town 3
BECCLES travelled to Spixworth just two days before the hosts were due to contest the Mummery Cup final.
Although they named a strong team, with the cup final in the back of their minds the Spixworth players could be forgiven for taking it easy in what was a pretty meaningless end-of-season game.
The visitors, however, were keen to restore some pride following their Easter Monday defeat to Norwich St Johns.
Beccles attacked from the outset on a sunny but very windy day and soon got some reward when Damon Bensley scored when he side footed in a Mcmorran cross.
Little was seen of Spixworth as an attacking force until just before half-time when Cable in the Beccles goal pulled off a fine save by tipping a goal-bound shot over the bar.
The second half started with more of the same with Beccles in total control and 10 minutes into the half Neil Mcmorran scored Beccles’ second and also the goal of the game.
Following a Beccles corner, the ball was cleared to him on the edge of the Spixworth box and he volleyed the ball into the top of the Spixworth net. Two soon became three when Ant Martin beat the home keeper with a well-struck shot from just outside the area.
Spixworth at last began to come back and were rewarded with a goal by Craig Vincent but, in truth, it was too little, too late and Beccles saw out the game to record a 3-1 away win.
On Tuesday night Beccles made the long midweek journey to play third- from-bottom North Walsham and were on the end of a surprising 5-0 defeat.
With North Walsham safe from relegation this too was a meaningless game but the hosts played as if it was a cup final and celebrated each goal in a very over-the-op manner.
With the league season finishing so late this year it has been decided to hold the Hospital Cup as a pre-season event for season 2011-2012.
More details of this will follow when it becomes available.
