BECCLES played their first game in the new National Top Club competition against Norfolk Bowling Club at Norwich and ran out winners by six points to four.

In this match each game carries two points.

In the ladies' two-bowl singles, Kirsty Clarke played England international Carol Pollington and was unlucky to lose 15-16.

The men's two-bowl singles saw a reversal of this result with Graham Catchpole winning 17-16 against Bernie Perrett.

The mixed pairs was won by Tracey Topple and Mark Todd who beat Brenda Whitehead and Wayne Willgress 23-16 and in the mixed triples, Louise Catchpole, Mark Cole and Ian Catchpole had a resounding win against John George's triple by 23-7. The mixed four of Georgina Marwood, Dot Woodhouse, Shaun Cook and David Wood lost to Phillip Day's four by 12-21.

In the next round Beccles play at home to Lynnsport on Sunday, December 6 at 4.30pm.

Last Saturday was the Beccles Ladies' Charity Day. This year's president Gloria Smith nominated the Association for International Cancer Research as the charity and a total of £2,400 was raised.

Every Saturday morning the Beccles Junior Bowlers (pictured) have been in action. Up to 20 youngsters aged between seven and 16 regularly attend the sessions.

On Saturday, December 5 Beccles will be hosting a junior pairs tournament with entries from other Suffolk and Norfolk clubs.
