Beccles played local rivals Hales and lost by five wickets.

With losing the toss and being put into bat on a pitch still drying from the heavy rains of Friday, Beccles knew this was not going to be an easy match especially when they saw that the three Andersens were back from their tour of Denmark.

Starting slowly the opening pair of Rob Porter and Rich Turrell were parted on the half hour as Turrell was bowled by R Andersen for six.

Dick Porter then joined his brother at the crease and they started the score board ticking over until Dick was given a dubious run out.

Losing Rob Porter when the score stood at 57 bought the ever-steady Powley to the crease. He and Vihm began to pile on the runs only for Powley to be run out as they reached 80.

Hoping that Dave Turrell would do some hard hitting he joined Vihm and 13 more runs were added before G Squire claimed his scalp.

Sydenham arrived at the crease and calmed things down whilst the runs began to increase at a tidy rate until D Vihm was run out.

Young Mike Fisher entered the fray for 10 minutes before being despatched by R Andersen. Anderson joined Sydenham for a short time before Sydenham was caught by Pearse.

George was sent back to the pavilion after facing only three balls and with an over to go Tony Wright and Anderson added to the score and finished the innings on 145.

Credit must go to the Hales bowlers who kept Beccles in check with only eight fours being scored in an innings where very few loose balls were there for the taking.

Hales started their innings as they meant to go on and Beccles had their first break on the hour when Chris Andersen was out lbw to Turrell for just 17 runs with his opening partner Martin Cornish joining him within a few balls.

This bought to the crease Phil Squire and Dan Andersen who then had the score board reeling as they doubled the score within the hour. Squire was caught and bowled by new boy Fisher who then bowled Andersen as the score stood at 125.

Kaye came and went quickly adding only two to the score which left Rowe and Ramsdale to score the remaining runs leaving Hales 51 points ahead at the top of Division Two of the Alliance. Beccles are fourth level with Swardeston.
