BECCLES GC are going great guns in the International Pairs competition. Paul Segust and James Cushing travelled to Ely for their regional semi-final and won a tight match on the last green.
One more win will see them travelling to Scotland for the finals of this major event.
The club are proud of their achievement as Beccles is the smallest club taking part in the competition.
On Saturday, the course at Beccles proved difficult to master when the August medal was contested with only three players beating the course par. A stiff breeze across the common was a contributing factor but bad form was the main reason for some unusually high scores. Bob Janney won the event 88-24-64 with Eddie Bowles second 81-16-65 and Jim Redpath third 84-17-67.
The return leg of the Beccles v Bungay match was played at Bungay during the week resulting in the “honourable draw” well in favour of the Bungay team gaining revenge for their trip to Beccles earlier in the year.
On Sunday, a small field braved the wind and rain to support the Lady Captain's fortnightly stableford. David Dean jnr won the event with 41 points, lady captain Sam Cooper was second with 39 and David Neech third on 35.
The Roger Harrod Cup is the fixture tomorrow, teeing off at 8.15am (draw 7.45).
