With the first team’s visit to Stalham Town called off because of a frozen pitch Beccles Town Reserves took centre stage on Saturday.

And they didn’t disappoint, maintaining their good season in Division Five South of the Anglian Combination by beating visitors Newton Flotman 6-2.

The visitors have made a very poor start to the seasobn, conceding many goals, so it looked as though this would be a one-sided affair.

However, this was not to be the case as Flotman put up a brave fight, in spite of going behind early on.

After scoring the early goal on around six minutes, Beccles were put back on the defensive by some real pressure which paid off when Newton Flotman managed to equalise after 30 minutes.

This galvanised Beccles and their better efforts were rewarded when they went 2-1 up just before half-time.

The second half was quite different with Beccles creating better attacks and mopping up any pressure from Flotman and outscoring them by 4-1 to give a final score of 6-2.

The Beccles goals were scored by Lee Squires (2), Jason Clarke, Harley Pluck, Jordan Boyd and Callum Read.

Beccles Reserves started with the following team (4-3-3): T Wickham, J Francis, J Philp. D Boyd, L Squires, J Bemment, E Udell, H Pluck, S Bee, J Clarke, K Bale with C Read, K Staines and L Ellis as substitutes.

Tomorrow, weather permitting, the first team entertain Hellesdon in a Premier Division match (2.30pm) while the Reserves take on their toughest test this season with a trip to second placed Attleborough Town Reserves (2pm).

Bungay Town’s Division One game against Aylsham Wanderers on Saturday was postponed because of a frozen pitch. Tomorrow they entertain second placed Sheringham (2.30pm).

It has been a promising season so far for Beccles Caxton, who stand fifth in Division Three of the Anglian Combination with 21 points from their 11 games. After having a weekend off due to the weather they are set to return to action with a tough trip to leaders Buxton.

Beccles Town U18s recorded an impressive 7-0 win over their counterparts from Diss, a side they had beaten 7-2 only last month. The scorers were Cal A (3), Cal R, Tai, Leyton and Alex.
