THIS was an engaging hockey game with plenty of end-to-end action as Beccles welcomed UEA to Loddon in this M and A Partners Division One game.

Beccles had to make a few late positional changes due to the captain having to call off due to sickness. It was encouraging to see Coral Moore back in the team again having only played one game so far this season due to other commitments. Coral took the right midfield position for this game, with Karen Knight moving to left defence.

Both these players showed their versatility and adapted well to their new positions. Lucy Paul had only her second game of the season, immediately settling into the game and linking well with her team-mates.

Beccles had more of the play and created several chances but the UEA defence stood strong. Following one of many such attacks, UEA counter-attacked, following a long ball to the waiting forward.

Manoeuvring passed the last defender, UEA would have scored had Lorraine Greenwood not pulled off a crucial save.

The Beccles players continued to work really hard and they showed great determination in their quest to win. Jodie Smith and Ali Foreman both played strong impressive hockey with Coral Moore using her awareness of those around her to create space.

Every time Beccles attacked, the D was packed with defenders, and despite their valiant efforts Beccles were unable to penetrate.

The team gelled well together and put in an admirable performance, but just did not have that extra bit of luck that is sometimes needed, and the game ended goalless with the teams sharing the points.

This week Beccles are away at Taverham against Reepham, 5.30pm start.
