BECCLES Reserves won only their third away game of the season at high flying Thetford Rovers.

Beccles travelled with the bare 11 and had to name the assistant manager as sub again. On a superb playing surface both teams started at a fast pace and this unfortunately led to some heavy tackles which the referee had to act swiftly to stamp out.

On 20 minutes a player from both sides saw red after clashing on the half way lane.

Both teams settled down and got back to playing football with Beccles taking the lead on 30 minutes. S Soloman floated in a free kick to the far post for young 16-year-old Sam Harmer to head home from eight yards for his first senior goal.

Five minutes later Thetford drew level after the ball was knocked in the area and Beccles failed to clear the second attempt.

Ten minutes into the second half Thetford took the lead as Beccles failed to clear once more.

With the final whistle fast approaching the Beccles management team made a tactical change of playing three at the back and with young Alex, Chick Hill and Jason King still full of running it was only a matter of time before Beccles drew level.

It was Chick Hill with 10 minutes to go who started his run from inside his own half and beat five players and smashed the ball past the keeper.

With eight minutes left Jason King latched onto a back pass and pressurised the keeper into a mistake to send Beccles into a 3-2 lead.

Thetford pressed for an equaliser but defender Chris Payne and the Beccles keeper Alex Knights stood strong to give Beccles all three points. This was a great performance not only from the 11 lads that travelled but the two managers that had faith from the start.
