BECCLES Ladies finished the 2008/9 winter season as winners of Harleston Magpies' hockey tournament held on Bank Holiday Monday. Beccles traditionally end the season with this tournament but have never had 14 players turn up! The last time they won this competition was in 2003, although Beccles were winners of the plate competition in 2007.

They won four of their five games in their section, scoring 11 goals and not conceding any, Beccles progressed to the semi-finals against Norwich City and went through on penalty flicks.

Faced with a strong Bury side in the final, Beccles defended well in not allowing Bury to score with Loraine Greenwood having to make two great saves. Beccles missed a golden opportunity to win the match just before full time but the shot went just wide.

This match went to penalty flicks which Beccles won 3-1 after some excellent goalkeeping from player-of-the-final Greenwood in a great team performance by all.
