BECCLES brushed off the disappointment of last week's rained off match against Swardeston at Beef Meadow by taking the full 25 points in style at Hilltops with an excellent all-round performance.

Town will be looking to emulate this performance at bottom place Dersingham tomorrow (Saturday).

Beccles won the toss and chose to bat on what looked a good wicket. Town started slowly, and Richard Turrel was out in a similar fashion to the previous week.

This brought Robert and Richard Porter together, and they set about giving Beccles a solid base for the middle order to capitalise on. The pair added 50 before Richard was caught, but this brought Vihm to the crease to join Porter, and they built another important partnership. Porter departed for a well-made 49, but the runs didn't stop, as Powley (17), Sydenham (13) and Anderson (20) all made contributions in support of Vihm, who batted to the very last ball where he was run out for a brilliant 77.

Town struck early as Swardeston openers Olpin and Pearson were sent back early, Dave Turrel's “bang it in” strategy working wonders with both pulling straight to Richard Turrel at mid-wicket.

Etteridge then struck with the help of a blinding catch by evergreen Tony Wright to leave the hosts at 18-3.

The home side decided to go for the draw but the persistence of the Beccles bowlers paid off, as they set up a thrilling climax at 116-8 with only four overs remaining.

Etteridge struck first to remove the obdurate Shearing for 11, and Turrel fired in his yorker in the penultimate over to bowl Swardeston captain Taylor and hand Beccles a 94-run victory, and the full 25 points to get right back into the promotion race.
