Earsham secured promotion to Division Three of the Anglian Combination with an emphatic home win over Dersingham.

Manager Dave Reeder reverted to a 3-5-2 formation, with Ramsay, Doughty and M Goodfellow making up the back three in front of keeper Honeywood.

Kent and Perrin provided the width with Riches, Seamons and J Goodfellow making up the midfield trio. Smith partnered Flint in attack with Plant, Hall and Edge on the substitutes’ bench.

Earsham began the game in a confident manner compared to previous weeks and they didn’t have to wait long to take the lead, when J Goodfellow found space on the edge of the box to smash home a loose ball after 20 minutes.

It was 2-0 five minutes later when a good run by Seamons down the right resulted in him pulling the ball back to Flint, and the striker’s shot found the back of the net, even though the visitors’ keeper got a hand to the ball.

Earsham made it 3-0 just before half-time when Flint’s cross was flicked on by Ramsay and Smith was on hand to stab the ball home to end his six-game goal drought and score his 45th goal of the season.

After half-time Earsham introduced both Hall and Plant from the bench and they didn’t take long to make their mark.

Firstly, Hall broke into the box and had the presence of mind to square to Seamons for a simple tap-in to make it 4-0.

Then, after a corner, Riches picked out Plant on the edge of the box and his half volley found the bottom corner.

The scoring was completed by Hall when he was played in behind by Plant and was able to finish past the keeper with ease to make it 6-0.

It was a fantastic display that comfortably provided the point required to secure a top-two finish and promotion with three games remaining.

Gorleston Reserves – who smashed 23 goals past Horsford United Reserves without reply – are top of the table, six points ahead of Earsham who have three games in hand. However, the Greens’ goal difference is vastly superior so the title is effectively theirs. Earsham have a six-point advantage over third-placed Hingham Athletic, who have played two games more.

This week Earsham host Reepham Town Reserves, 3pm kick-off.
