On another fine Wednesday evening, last week, Great Yarmouth Road Runners held the second of their annual mid-week series five-mile races and 13 Bungay Black Dogs took part in a large field of 231 runners.

Chris Chorley was first home in 65th place in a time of 34:11. John Wharton was 82nd (35:08), Bruce Rayner, 98th (36:08), Neil Thomas, 130th (38:45), Philip Neave improving again in 134th (38:50) and Nigel Gilham 138th in 39:08.

Bobbie Sauerzapf was the first female Black Dog in 144th (39:37) ahead of Club Captain Karen Gedge, 166th (41:05). Robin Farrar was 197th (45:00), Karen Waters, 199th (45:08), Natalie Whyte, 218th (48:11), with Louise Reed and Nikki Hunting finishing together in 220th (48:12). The final race will take place on May 18.

Five Black Dogs travelled to deepest Essex on Sunday to compete in the wonderfully scenic and undulating Halstead and Essex Marathon.

Chris Chorley was the first Black Dog home in 79th position in a time of 3-32, looking remarkably fresh after a 100-mile walk in Shropshire the previous weekend.

Ian Taylor pipped Bobbie Sauerzapf by one second in 4-05:34. They finished in 265th and 266th respectively. Making his marathon debut, Dave Gilbert put in an excellent performance and finished in 319th (4-14) followed by Colin Whale in 527th place in 5-08. There were 609 finishers.

On the same day, nine Black Dogs took part with 142 other entrants in the Waveney Triathlon at the Bungay Sports Centre. This involved a 400m swim, 20km cycle ride and 3km run. Roland Shaw was first home in an excellent 25th in 56:59 followed by Lynn Emmett, 40th (59:26), Robert James. 53rd (1 hr), and Darrell Oldman, 69th (1-03).

Dave Lines improved his time by 15 minutes coming 81st in 1-05, ahead of Nigel Edge, 87th (1-06), Bruce Rayner, 106th (1-10), Black Dog Junior Marcus Sladden, 136th (1-18) and Bob Jack, 145th (1-26).

The day before, Bob had also completed a humid and hilly 10km race at Boxford near Hadleigh, Suffolk in 1-12.
