Bungay Town, who tomorrow host Norwich St John's, had to be content with a share of the spoils against bottom club Aylsham under the Maltings Meadow lights on Wednesday evening.

The visitors belied their lowly position - they have won only once in the Anglian Combination Division Two this season - with a lively performance in which they gave as good as they got and frustrated most of Bungay's efforts.

The home side were able to get their game together only in short spells, and a good performance by the Aylsham keeper earned his side a point.

The first half was a scrappy affair with neither keeper being really tested.

Ash Ling got in one header but it lacked power and was straight at the keeper, and later Tom Amiss lobbed the defence following a corner but the keeper turned his effort over the bar.

And the visitors took the lead two minutes before half-time as they beat the Bungay offside trap and Gedge took the ball on to beat Jimmy Bligh as he advanced.

The Aylsham keeper made two fine saves before the interval to keep out goal-bound efforts from Paul Hunter and Amiss.

Bungay equalised 10 minutes into the second half when Hunter played a short free-kick to Danny Wilby, and his fine ball found Amiss out on the right.

He controlled it to drill home a well-struck angled shot.

Later a nice touch by Hunter almost put Ling in, but again the keeper got there first.

A great run down the left by Kevin Riches ended with a cross the keeper could only punch into the air under pressure. And when Ling looped a header over him, it was headed off the line by a defender.

Ling put another header on to the roof of the net, but Bungay were unable to build on the impetus, and the game fizzled out to a draw.

The visitors did get the ball in the net with six minutes left, but it was disallowed for offside.
