The most popular event for Bungay Black Dog Running Club members last weekend was Saxmundham Running and Fitness Club’s annual five mile race.
Eight Black Dogs took on the ‘Saxons 5 miler’ on a lovely multi-terrain course that was, however, far from flat.
Matt Spencer was on the podium in third place overall with a great time of 28 minutes and 56 seconds. The other Black Dog results were: 32 Sean O’Loughlin 36.38, 39 Andy Bailey 37.59, 44 Julian Davis 38.36,50 Jo Lockhart (first in her age group) 39.45, 100 Sam Stedman-Jones 47.14, 125 Mik Carr 50.29 and 133 Malcolm Stedman-Jones in 52.42.
Andrew Manning and Jody Donaldson travelled to Goring for the Centurion Autumn 100 mile race. Conditions were testing, especially on the Ridgeway and runners had to cope with Storm Brian in the early hours of the morning as they crossed open fields.
Unfortunately, Jody was timed after a navigational error but still managed 64 of the 100 miles. Andrew finished in a brilliant time of 22:07:21; second in his age category and 41st overall of 178 finishers.
Further afield still, Hazel Garrity and her daughter Katie ran the Palma, Mallorca half marathon. Hazel came home first in her age category and 1,364 overall among 3,900 runners, achieving a personal best time of 1:56.31.
Hazel returned home to take another F55 age category win in a windy, hilly Ilmington Winter Series 10k race in the Cotswolds, clocking a time of 53.16.
Since March, 2014 Beccles & Bungay Harriers Athletic Club volunteer committee members, qualified coaches and run leaders have worked tirelessly to develop the club.
The club is made up of approximately 78 adult athletes ranging from relative beginners to more experienced athletes competing in local and regional races. There are also approximately 48 juniors, ranging from 10-18.
In early December the club is holding its annual Christmas Party and would love to arrange goodie bags for both the juniors and adults. The club looking for promotional material, whether that be leaflets, product samples, discount vouchers, etc, which will promote businesses and encourage members to fully engage in the love of the sport.
