There was a great weekend of bowls at Beccles Indoor BC when the ladies' county semi-finals were held there last week.

The home club had several representatives in the various competitions, which were enjoyed by a large number of supporters.

In the four-wood singles, 14-year-old Georgie Marwood from Beccles recorded a great win against M Cotton from Sudbury, 21- 11.

It was so nearly an all-Beccles final as Louise Catchpole only just failed to beat the experienced A Hawkins from Mid Suffolk in a very exciting game, with the final score being 21-18.

There were two other Beccles winners. In the mixed triples, Margaret Moore, Cyril Moore and David Wood beat Tracey Topple, John Knights and Mark Todd. And in the champion of champion singles, Tracey Topple beat P Pinwell from Risbygate.

In the two-wood singles, Louise Catchpole was edged out again by A Hawkins, while in the pairs, Nora Rutherford and Margaret Draper lost to M Bell and D Poole from Sudbury.

The finals will be played at Ipswich on Saturday, March 29.

The club thanked the markers, scorers, those who helped with the refreshments and all the other workers over the weekend who all contributed to making the event a great success.

On Sunday, the club will be holding the annual Easter triples tournament.

Twelve triples will be competing throughout the day, with the semi-finals and final being played in the late afternoon.

This will be followed by a buffet for all players and spectators.
