Bright future for Beccles

BECCLES Youth Development XI entertained a vastly more experienced Bacton side on Sunday and emerged very comfortable winners by 82 runs.After a delayed start due to rain, Beccles elected to bat and sent out Josh Aldridge and pinch-hitter Mike Fisher to take advantage of the shortened format.

After a delayed start due to rain, Beccles elected to bat and sent out Josh Aldridge and pinch-hitter Mike Fisher to take advantage of the shortened format. The experiment didn't work as Fisher was out for nought after just three balls.

Unfortunately for Bacton, this only bought George Milton to the crease. The youngster quickly outscored his more experienced partner, playing some superb shots and raced to 18 before being stumped, an innings which bodes very well for the club's future.

This allowed captain Sneddon to dominate proceedings, eventually reaching 80 not out in a chanceless innings.

He was well supported by veteran Aldridge with a well- compiled 45. Some quick running and big hitting from Glenn Wright bought Beccles' innings to a close on 175 from their 30 overs.

Beccles took to the field aiming to wrap the game up as quickly as possible. The youthful Beccles bowling line-up all contributed. Alex Wright proving to be very economical along with taking two wickets and debutant Aiden Lowe picking up three wickets in a hostile spell.

The whole team never allowed Bacton to get into the game, all fielding well and backing up the bowlers.

The Bacton innings closed well short on 93.

This was an exceptional all-round performance from Beccles which leaves a very good platform to build on for the future.
