BUNGAY A finally learned how to chase down a total as they won batting second for the first time since 2007, Tim Porter leading the way with 63 as they beat Costessey by seven wickets.

With one eye on the weather, Bungay decided to put the hosts in to bat, and although runs were hard to come by in the first half, so were wickets as Bungay spilled numerous chances.

It was not until the drinks break that Bungay got the breakthrough, Tony Chang completing a smart stumping off skipper Harold Haines, who then trapped Downing in front.

Dave Richardson was re-introduced into the attack and finally got through Taylor's defences as he was bowled for a fighting 41.

Horner and Taylor took the score on, but Taylor then offered a simple return catch to Richardson.

Darren Flatt then cleaned out Harris with a yorker, and Haines grabbed two more lbw victims in the closing overs. Horner provided belligerent resistance as he clubbed his way to 48 not out at the death as Costessey posted their highest home total of the season, 145.

In reply, Bungay knew that they had to work hard for runs as Taylor and Smith bowled well in the conditions.

Porter was remorseless on anything pitched up, but Cudden fell victim to a tumbling catch by Harris at short cover.

Martyn Ramm joined Porter, and the pair began to up the scoring tempo as Porter punished anything loose, a couple of wayward overs from Rudd getting short shrift as Bungay pushed the score to 81-1 off 20 overs, Porter having passed his half-century.

Ramm fell nibbling at an out-swinger from Carlton, and Tony Chang joined Porter as the pair took the score past the century mark.

Porter then finally missed one from Horner to depart for 63, but Darren Flatt and Chang ensured that there were no further alarms as the pair took Bungay past the winning post at a canter, the visitors winning by seven wickets with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Bungay host Kirkley and Lowestoft Railway A tomorrow, hoping to keep on the heels of the leaders in Norfolk Division Three.
