Sole Bay 20, Bungay Town 12

THIS netball game started slowly as both teams tried to get their fluid attacking play moving.

Sole Bay started the brightest with sharp movement and slick passing that caught the Bungay defence out. As the first 10 minute period drew to a close Bungay got themselves back in the game with two quick scores to end the period 4-2 down.

Bungay began the second period with high energy and immediately made an impact, cutting the Sole Bay lead with a swift interchange between WA, GA feeding GS who netted well under pressure.

End-to-end stuff as the period progressed with Bungay sticking doggedly to their task and holding the more experienced Sole Bay side. Eventually the pressure told and the Sole Bay GS found space cleverly to score three times in quick succession. The period finished with the home side 12-6 to the good.

The third period started with a 'Bungay blitz', as the visitors scored three unanswered baskets from their GA Lorna.

Bungay continued to press, pulling the score back to 13-10 and keeping Sole Bay on the back foot. An excellent chance as created by excellent interplay between C and GA and Bungay looked as though they felt they could peg Sole Bay back.

As the third period wore on, Bungay's efforts started to take its toll. Missed chances were rued as the home side pulled away again to lead 17-10 at the end of the third period.

The fourth period began with Bungay containing the home side and reducing them to long passing. At the other end, Bungay created chances which Lorna and Claire were just unable to convert due to resolute Sole Bay defending.

A breakaway from the home side resulted in the conversion of their first chance in the period. Excellent Bungay defence contained further attacks and Bungay finally converted one of their chances.

A fast paced and competitive few minutes followed with both sides creating chances. Eventually Sole Bay got into their stride and pulled away to lead 20-12 at the end of the game with clinical finishing.

Bungay had an excellent first game. Fast, furious and penetrating. As the game wore on, they were able to combine slick passing and clever movement with real endeavour.
