As temperatures soared, last weekend’s Fritton Triathlon Festival saw two races on Saturday (Sprint and Supersprint) followed by an Olympic distance race on Sunday.

Jackie Bell was the lone Bungay Black Dog Running Club member racing in all three events, known as the Fritton triple, finishing first in her age group in two of them.

Black Dog Laura Betts made an impressive post-baby comeback on the Saturday, just missing out on an age group win in the sprint.

Sunday saw the temperature rise even higher for the Olympic distance race with the competitors pleased to get in the water to cool off. A number of BBDRC members including Jo Walker, Aaron Jackson and Alex Watson raced Olympic for the first time, putting in very creditable performances. Jackie Bell and Bridget Law both won their age groups in testing conditions. In the standard distance, Bridget Shaw also picked up an age group win and David Sparshott was the first Black Dog home in 13th overall.

For the ladies, Jo Walker was first home with a really strong performance. Other Black Dogs taking part included Bruce Rayner in the sprint, Sarah Maidment in the standard, plus Nikki Holland-Gladwish who did a great job on the run leg for her standard distance relay team.

Elsewhere, Paul Bird and Michael Ball returned to Dorney Lake where they had undertaken their first marathons earlier this year but their initial hopes for faster times quickly evaporated over the 10 lap route in the June sunshine with Mike recording a time of 6:9.57 seconds and Paul 6:14.09.

Paul Bird was also at Caldecotte Lake, Milton Keynes, for the Clueless Run, a marathon with a Cluedo-themed medal. He was pleased to be one of the survivors, finishing in 6:17.17.

Sue Potter and Ali Morton completed the Norfolk Superhero Quadrathlon with their team ‘Wrong Direction’ delighted to complete the one mile sea swim, four mile kayak course, 45 mile cycle route, seven mile beach run and one mile marsh run in a little over 7.5 hours. Their sponsorship for the challenge currently stands at over £700.

At the Fram Friday five mile race, the results were: 99 Steven Neaves 34.09, 146 Chris Chorley 36.13, 284 Bobbie Sauerzapf 42.23, 290 Edd Phillips 42.34. And in the Bedford 10k: 135 Chris Chorley, 44.16, 490 Bobbie Sauerzapf 56.13.
