Last weekend’s Virgin Money London Marathon saw a record 21 Bungay Black Dog Running Club members finishing among the 40,000 competing, while dozens more travelled to cheer them on.

Emma Meiring, who ran to raise funds for Hospice UK and had to battle through the last seven miles with a knee injury, described the race as “an amazing experience; the camaraderie with fellow runners and the crowds was incredible”.

Jo Woodgate enjoyed “an amazing day” cheering on husband Martyn and “so many inspiring runners”.

Sean Symonds was able to enter the race via the club’s own ballot and offered “a massive thanks to Team Black Dog — your support really helped me to up my game.” Similarly, Jo Lockhart felt lifted by “familiar names and faces and hearing your name being called” while Sabrina Norton said, “the support crews were amazing”.

The first race in the 2019 Great Yarmouth Promenade five mile series attracted a bumper 48 Black Dogs. Jo Andrews, in 11th place overall was first lady home while Joseph Smith made the podium in third place. Justine Fawcett was second behind Jo Andrews in the F45-49 category, Maria Goodby was second F50-54, Jackie Bell third F55-59, Hazel Garrity second F60-64, Christine Muttitt first F70+, Terry Garrity second M65-69.
