A big turnout of Bungay Black Dog Running Club members and friends were at Gorleston Cliffs last weekend in a fitting tribute to ladies’ captain Alice Kirk’s 250th Saturday parkrun.

Meanwhile the club’s popular Groggy Doggy Boxing Day race on Outney Common is now open for entries.

Promoted each year as ‘the perfect antidote to Christmas’ the race starts at 10.30am and runs along a beautiful rural riverside course with plenty of mud.

A race for nine to 12 year-olds consists of a 1.5 mile lap while adults can choose between running a single or double 2.1 mile lap. Fancy dress and dogs are welcome as are donations to the event’s ‘Give a dog a dinner’ scheme whereby participants can donate animal food for the PACT Animal Sanctuary at Hingham. Entries can be made via the ‘our races’ tab on the BBDRC website (https://bungayblackdogrunningclub.co.uk).

Fundraising is also on the mind of Junior Black Dogs have been raising money for new training facilities to enable them to participate more competitively in inter-school, inter-club, regional and national events in which they are required to take part in throwing and jumping events. BBDRC hopes to be able to install a long jump and triple jump pit at its Bungay Area Running Centre at Pirnhow Street and has applied to the Aviva Community Fund for a grant towards the project. Anyone wanting to support needs to register and vote via https://community-fund.aviva.co.uk before November 20.
