After a morale-boosting victory against Sprowston A the week before, Bungay came up short against a strong Martham side.

After electing to field first the Bungay opening bowlers toiled hard and created some half chances but on a good wicket the Martham openers were able to capitalise on anything loose and took full advantage of the fast outfield and the odd bit of sloppy fielding.

When the breakthrough came courtesy of an excellent spell by Dave Fuller, Bungay needed to take wickets to restrict the flow of runs, but the middle order of Martham kept pushing on.

Apart from Fuller all the bowlers came in for some punishment and Martham finished on an imposing 314-6 from their allotted overs.

Bungay’s top order got off to a decent start, again using the excellent surface to play some attractive strokes. However it was always going to be a big ask to chase down a score of that size and someone needed a big score for the team to have a chance. Sadly despite 33 from Will Lewis and 65 from Fuller, to complete a good all round performance, the Bungay batters never really got up with the rate and it was left to an excellent unbeaten 37 by Jack Masters, including a gorgeous straight six, to get Bungay up to 213-8 from their 45 overs to cllect maximum batting points.

Bungay will look to bounce back tomorrow against North Runcton back at headquarters.

Bungay A made it three wins in three against 10 man Vauxhall Mallards B in the Norfolk League.

With Mallards batting first, Pawsey’s spin (1-28) got the first breakthrough early on. This allowed Shipley’s pace and swing (3-28) to rip into their middle order, with the pair concedingd only 56 in their 20 overs.

James Lewis (28) providied resistance but The introduction of Eldon (2-13) resumed control and the tail end was finished off by Jak Clark picking up three quick wickets.

Chasing 125, the total seemed no threat when the first wicket of Shipley fell at 71. He had struck a rapid 54, and with only 55 runs required all seemed well. The proceeding collapse to 119-8 due to some good batting and poor batting helped Mallards back into the game before some sensible batting by young Oliver Hall, aided by Pawsey, steered Bungay home. Bungay play local rivals Topcroft B at Saxlingham tomorrow.
