BUNGAY A kept in touch with the leaders of Division Three with a convincing 39-run win over bottom

side Kirkley & Lowestoft Railway A.

Electing to bat first, openers Tim Porter and Carl Cudden got off to a slow start scoring five off the first

five overs.

Runs began to flow as the score ticked up to 36 off 10 overs, and both openers were relatively untroubled as the foundations were laid for a big score.

At drinks, the score was 91 without loss, and Cudden reached his half-century first, with Porter catching him up a couple of overs later. After 30 overs the score was 118 without loss. Cudden then offered an easy return chance to Cruikshanks.

Martyn Ramm, on his debut this season, quickly settled, and he and Porter got the scoreboard rolling. Porter had his eye on a century but fell 13 short, as he tried to hit Cruikshanks once too often and was bowled.

Shoe Kapoor lasted only three balls as he was trapped in front with the total on 203. Dave MacPhillie and Ramm clattered the bowling around Gunton Park as Bungay posted a daunting 236 for three, doubling their total in the final 15 overs with Ramm finishing on a classy 54no.

In reply, openers Danny Thorpe and Dobson set about some wayward opening bowling as Luke Pawsey struggled for line and length.

Danny Mowday settled the better of the two, and got due reward as Dobson skewed one to Haines at point.

Pavier joined Thorpe, and the home side looked on course as the 100 came up in the 20th over. Mick Thornton and Andy Hutton restored a semblance of control.

Thornton bowled Pavier, and a mix-up saw Hayes stranded as a rapid pick-up and throw from Luke Pawsey left the batsman well short of his ground.

Thorpe then picked out Thornton at long-off for 47, leaving the home side 118 for four after 30 overs.

Darren Newman and Carl Wright carried on the home side's resistance with 38 and eight respectively, but Thornton bowled Newman, and skipper Haines trapped Wright in front.

Pawsey accounted for Cruikshanks with a juggling catch by Andy Hutton, and Haines picked up a brace of wickets in the final over as Kirkley and Lowestoft Railway fell well short of their steep target.

Bungay entertain Horsford B next, hoping to continue their winning ways.
