Bungay crush opponents

BUNGAY got straight back to winning ways with a crushing 120-run win at Dereham A in Alliance Division Four

Bungay captain D Fuller again lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Tthe Dereham opening pair Crisp and Raper bowled tight early lines and Raper enticedFuller to edge a wide delivery to first slip. Watts followed two overs later to Crisp lbw and the visitors were 25-2 from 11 overs.

York played aggressively against the young Dereham change bowlers, striking nine fours and one six on his way to 50 before hitting the ball straight to mid-wicket. M Elden joined Fuller but, having removed York, the Dereham bowlers found their line, and runs became hard to come by as the pair struggled to 108 from 31 overs before Fuller was caught for a patient 19.

This however was Derehams last success as W Lewis and Elden upped the rate. An inventive Elden found regular boundaries and with Lewis added 108 runs for the fifth wicket to close on 216-4.

Bungay looked to attack the young Dereham batsmen. York bowled an excellent line and was finally rewarded in the 11th over, I Battelley caught at slip. York then ripped through the Dereham top order with 4-10 from his first 10 overs. D Flatt had his first bowl in Bungay colours and removed Lake for 38 and the aggressive R Maybe for 18.

Bungay bowled out Dereham for 96 in the 31st over.

BUNGAY A lost touch with the leaders in Norfolk League Division Three with a six-wicket loss to Happisburgh.

The visitors won at a canter with 12 overs to spare, chasing down their target of 155. All the batsmen contributed but no one went on to a major score. Opening bowlers Danny Mowday and Andy Hutton kept things tight early on but the home side needed early wickets which were not forthcoming. Shoe Kapoor finally breached Blanch's defences and a controversial decision saw Dennis reinstated after Bungay thought he had been run out. However four runs later he drilled a catch to a grateful Mowday at mid-wicket. Youngster Matthew Long took some punishment from Catchpole but had the last laugh as the batsman was deceived by his flight and was smartly stumped by Carl Cudden. Mowday picked up the wicket of Huckle but the experienced Ivan Andrews and Allen saw the visitors home.

It could have been even easier for Happisburgh though as they had reduced the hosts to 38-5 at one point, only Tim Porter showing any resistance in making 25 before being bowled by Catchpole. Skipper Matthew Haines and last minute call-up Karl Rumball slowly repaired the damage in the face of accurate bowling by the visitors, putting on 68 in 22 overs. Rumball and Nigel Hill upped the rate before Bungay finished on 154.

Bungay travel to bottom side Kirkley and Lowestoft Railway looking to return to winning ways.
