Bungay maintained their upward momentum in Division Three of the Norfolk Alliance with a nail-biting seven run victory at Maltings Meadow.

Batting first against visitors Acle A, Bungay recovered from the early losses of Will Lewis and Chris Fuller to achieve a solid platform.

Number four Tom York led the way with a fabulous knock of 90 which included some trademark mighty blows while batting through to the 42nd over.

Able support was provided by opener Nick Lo with an elegant 43 at the outset and Martyn Ramm with a useful 42 batting through to the last over. Bungay finished on 213 for six from their allotted overs.

Electing to open with spinner Lo (2-27 in nine overs) proved to be a wise move as opener Owen Gooch pulled one to Chris Fuller in the fourth over and Jordan Webster gloved one to keeper Matthew Williams for 16.

In between, Fuller (9 overs 1-48) clean bowled Josh Wilson for eight. During this, dangerman Rob Porter continued to attack, amassing 49 before Jack Masters (2-23 in six overs) bowled him with a terrific inswinger.

With Acle needing 90 from the last 16 overs with five wickets in hand York (1-31 in 7.4 overs) and Charlie Mattocks (1-51 in eight overs) bowled great spells at the death. Three run-outs maintained Bungay’s fine season for fielding, the last of which ended the match.

Needing nine off the final over and only achieving one run from the first three balls, Jordan Betts (56) was left well short pushing for a suicidal second run to Masters who combined with Williams to end proceedings and give Bungay an important win, their fifth on the trot.

On Saturday the Black Dogs travel to Fakenham A as the season reaches its halfway stage.

They go into the match third in the table, just 14 points behind leaders Great Melton, who lost for the first time this season on Saturday.
