After last season’s first win in the FA Women’s Cup Bungay Ladies travelled to Colchester Town, who play two levels higher, and came away with a deserved 4-2 win.
From the off Bungay played quality passing football and after 10 minutes Emily Leach curled in a 25 yard free-kick, only for the hosts to draw level.
It was still 1-1 at the break but after a bit of management tinkering Bungay again had Colchester under pressure and new signing Selina Rowland cut inside two players and produced a quality strike from 20 yards to regain the lead. Shorty after another new player, Becky Hills, placed a shot inside the keeper’s far post to increase the lead but a defensive error allowed Colchester to reduce the arrears. Bungay went on to rattle the post and bar before a corner from player of the match Nicky Hazel was headed back to Becky Hills to shoot home. Bungay travel to Harlow in the second round on September 17.
