Bungay finished the season on a high note as they strolled to a comfortable victory over visiting Fakenham A in their final Norfolk Alliance Division Three match.

They restricted the visitors to 179-9 in their 45 overs and then knocked off the runs required for the loss of only four wickets, with 10 overs in hand.

Bowling first, Bungay gave the new ball to Will Lewis for his first spell of the season.

He responded by removing both openers for ducks on his way to figures of five overs 3-17. Excellent support was given by Jack Masters, who returned five overs 0-17 at the other end. Olly Flood then produced a stunning horizontal catch to remove Campbell for 11 off Charlie Mattocks (9 overs 1-27).

Andrew Hancock was continuing to bat nicely, taking Fakenham past 100, but was eventually stumped by keeper Matt Williams, one of his four dismissals, for 64 off the ever wily Dave Fuller (9 overs 2-22).

Tom York bowled with his usual guile at the end, finishing with eight overs 3-29, including a very sharp caught and bowled, as the visitors rather scrambled their way to 179 for nine from their allotted overs.

It was never likely to be enough, and opener York signalled his intent with the bat as he garnered 28 runs from his first 12 deliveries on his way to a quickfire 63 as Bungay passed 100 inside 18 overs.

Following the losses of Dave Fuller for 28 and Williams for 10, Lewis (23 not out) and Masters, who batted fluently for his 35, saw Bungay saunter to their target with 10 overs to spare and six wickets in hand, in front of a good crowd also enjoying the weekend’s Bungay beer festival.

All in all, it has been a highly enjoyable and successful season for the team who mounted a strong challenge for the season before finishing third. in finishing third, And with second XI promoted in the Norfolk League it promises much for the near future.

Up in Division Two Topcroft ensured they would finish the season top by beating Ashmanhaugh and Barton Wanderers by eight wickets after restricting them to 215-6.

Henry Parkinson led the run chase by scoring 94 while there were also excellent contributions from Harry Windridge (53 not out) and Jon Block (44).

Topcroft finished the second 21 points clear of second placed Beccles.
