Bungay Town extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with this fine 1-0 win at Reepham on Tuesday evening, thanks to a second-half goal from Callum Jones.

In a dour game with few goal chances at either end, Bungay deserved the three points for their solid defending throughout the game.

After a quiet opening, it was the hosts who settled first, and after 15 minutes Bungay keeper Jimmy Bligh had to be at his best to turn away a shot after the home striker had beaten the offside trap. A few minutes later the home side again went close but it was cleared.

Bungay's only opportunity of the first half came when Gavin Webb's cross from the right eluded two defenders and fell to Callum Jones, but his shot went over the bar. Both sides struggled to retain possession of the ball on the hard playing surface.

Bungay started the second half well, and began to show more composure on the ball. After 48 minutes, substitute Ash Ling found Tom Amiss in the area, but his shot from 12 yards was easily saved. Bligh made another sharp save from a Reepham break.

Bungay got the crucial goal after 63 minutes, Ling's pass finding Jones in space in the inside-right channel, and his low shot beat the keeper. The Black Dogs defended their lead well, restricting the home side to long shots, and held on comfortably.

A goal in each half at West Lynn SSC had brought Bungay their sixth successive away win.

An own goal and a penalty did the trick and it also stretched Bungay's unbeaten run into double figures - eight wins and two draws is certainly championship form and the points lifted them into fifth place with an outside chance of a top- four finish. The opening goal had a touch of fortune about it as a high ball into the box from Dan Lowe was back-headed by a defender and it sailed in.

A Lynn forward broke though to lob Bligh but the effort went over. Ash Ling set up a shooting chance for Paul Hunter but his shot was off target, and at the other end Bligh was twice alert to headers from corners, and then touched a header from a throw over.

In the second half Bungay defended well and with the home side's passing too often wayward the expected onslaught did not materialise, though in the opening 10 seconds Bligh had to dive to turn away a low shot.

The home keeper did similarly from a Joe MarFarlane drive 30 seconds later. Ling was just wide with one effort for Bungay, and soon after he had a great chance as he broke clear on the right. But his effort his a post, and when it rebounded to Jason Belmore a defender lunged to clear his goal-bound effort off the line.

Then a home defender broke clear onto a weak back pass but put his effort wide. With 10 minutes left Callum Jones was up-ended and Craig Hunting made no mistake from the spot kick. With four minutes left Lynn had a player sent off for elbowing Hunting.

Bungay's final Division Two game was due to take place last night at home to league leaders Corton.
