BUNGAY produced an improved performance to beat a spirited Wortwell side on Tuesday in the Wightman-King Cup.

The result saw Bungay top their group, but the single-goal defeat was also enough for Wortwell to make the semi-finals as group runners-up.

Bungay started well, and almost took the lead after five minutes, when Paul Hunter's powerful shot beat the keeper but came back off the underside of the bar.

With new signing Shane Ward looking lively up front the home side were on top, and they broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, Ward beating the visitors' offside trap to finish coolly.

However, Wortwell came back into the game, and they equalised after 25 minutes, Tom Ramsey scoring from close range after Bungay had failed to clear a corner.

The remainder of the half saw Ward again go close for Bungay, and Wortwell hit the post, but no further goals.

Bungay were on top for most of the second period, and got the winner after 52 minutes, Joe McFarlane heading home Ward's chipped pass.

Bungay now meet Wenhaston in the semi-finals, with Loddon meeting Wortwell in the other semi-final. Both will be played in the spring on dates to be confirmed.
