Ash Canham led the way with a hat-trick on Saturday as the Black Dogs put a poor Watton side to the sword in an Anglian Combination Division One game.

It lifted them to third place in the table, and was their biggest home win since they beat Hempnall 13-0 three years ago.

Debutant Ryan Crisp was among six players to get on the scoresheet in a game in which Bungay could, and perhaps should, have doubled their tally.

Watton were the first to threaten though, as a free-kick on the edge of the area struck the underside of the bar and was cleared.

But Bungay dominated the game, and after Ryan Cook had gone close and Josh Knights’ corner had gone across the six-yard box with no one getting a touch, full back Chris Anderson was on hand to score from close range when the Watton defence failed to clear a Knights’ free-kick.

Two minutes later Crisp showed his finishing power with a low left foot drive across the keeper into the far corner. The home side created numerous chances that they failed to take during the first half, but after the interval, as the visitors tired, they banged in another six goals.

Crisp put two chances wide early on, and when John Riches set up Canham the keeper made a fine save to turn his shot away.

Tom Wickham in the Bungay goal had to turn one swirling cross away from under the bar, but it was 3-0 in the 50th minute as Canham finally found the net after Riches put him clear. Crisp tested the keeper twice more and Riches put a header wide before Crisp set up Canham for a tap-in in the 57th minute. The busy striker completed his hat-trick in the 73rd minute, when a fine move down the right ending in James Gill putting him free.

Riches glanced a header narrowly wide before Crisp won a 79th minute penalty which Shaun Whiteman powered home form the spot, and then Riches got the final touch to another low cross across the goal for number seven. The rout was completed in the 90th minute as Gill finished off a move by converting Canham’s cross at the far post.
