Bungay Town made it seven points from three games in 2019 as they cruised to a 4-0 win at Hindringham on Saturday.

This was a far better performance than the one the previous week when they were held to a draw by bottom club Reepham.

It brought their first clean sheet since October 6 and was the first time they have scored more than twice in a game since the 3-3 home draw with Hindringham on October 27.

Bungay dominated the game and created numerous chances — had they taken them, even the easy ones, they would have been well into double figures. But this was a positive outing in which everyone was buzzing.

In the first minute Dom Mirner headed over from Tom Hunter’s cross when it seemed easier to score, but Bungay were ahead in the seventh minute as Hunter played the ball forward and Darrell Wigger beat the keeper to it and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Ash Canham tried his luck with a first time effort that flew wide and the keeper made a finger-tip save to keep out another Wigger effort before the same player missed another easy chance, sliding the ball wide the goal from two yards.

Wigger tested the keeper again after winning the ball well on the right and Mirner was then unlucky to see the keeper block another shot when he raced clear.

Supporters were hoping the side would not pay for the profligacy in the second half, but those thoughts were dispelled early on when Brannan Solomon was pushed in the area and Shaun Whiteman drilled home his fifth penalty of the season and eighth goal in all.

As the Black Dogs continued to dominate Jamie Weston netted but was judged to have handled, Canham saw a shot blocked and the keeper saved well from another Weston shot and also from a Whiteman header.

Following a 65th minute corner Canham saw his curling shot come back off a post but he made it 3-0 in the 70th minute taking advantage of a poor goal-kick to beat the keeper comprehensively for his eighth of the season.

Alex Husband, on as a substitute, missed another golden chance firing wide from Hunter’s cut-back before Matt James, another substitute, completed the scoring with 13 minutes left, bursting clear to slot past the exposed keeper, his second first team goals in 34 appearances.

The home side created nothing until a header hit the bar with three minutes left.

Team: L Riches, T Daniels, C Hunting, S Whiteman, T Hunter, J Weston, J Knights, B Solomon (D Mirner), D Mirner (M James), A Canham (S Wooldridge), D Wigger (A Husband).

Tomorrow Bungay entertain Thetford Rovers (2.30pm), in a game which should mark Craig Hunting’s 558th appearance, breaking the club’s all-time appearance record currently held by Graeme Jolly.
